Happy New Year!

Well, it’s officially 2015. The last year has certainly been a busy one, factoring in my sea time and the move to Maine. However, as I look back over the posting archive, I’m actually struck by how much I’ve managed to keep up with updating the blog! I’m not sure how I managed to pull it off, but there you go. 2014 was easily one of the most active years here on the site in a long time!

As is traditional, I’m going to post two Top Lists here for video games and unplugged games. These lists will be short, and have more to do with what I played in 2014 than what came out in 2014. Here we go!

Video Games:

1. World of Tanks: Still playing a lot of this one. I’ve been in the game now for about 2 years, which is a surprising amount of time for me to be playing a single game.

2. Fire Emblem: Awakening: I played this game off and on all year; it is easily the best Fire Emblem game I have played. I’m going to have to do a detailed review of it one of these days…

3. Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion: I know this one is a couple of years old by now, but I still played quite a bit of it in 2014. The Star Trek Armada III mod really breathed new life into this one, and if I wasn’t playing World of Tanks, I was probably playing this one!

Miniature & Board Games

1. Dystopian Wars: DW 2.0 came out this year, and I have had a blast with it! As with most of my games, I don’t get to play it nearly as much as I would like, but the new rules really tighten up the core game play while adding some interesting additional layers.

2. Firestorm Armada: I missed out on the release of the second edition of this game in 2013 due to deployment, but I’ve gotten into it in a big way this past year. Definitely looking to get into it more this coming year!

3. Ticket to Ride: This game is now 10 years old, but Gwen and I really enjoy playing it together (one of the few boardgames we’ve found that we both like!). I imagine we will be playing this one quite a bit more in 2015.

And there you have it! 2015 is looking like it will be a great year for gaming, with a couple of great releases right on the horizon. The biggest one looks to be Star Wars Armada by Fantasy Flight Games. Until next time!
